Abstract
The growth of glamping has expanded the range of lodging options in nature-based destinations and introduced experiential, environmental, and service-related attributes that may alter the benchmarks of competition within the hotel sector. The objective of this study was to identify the mechanisms and capabilities associated with how establishments respond to these transformations. An integrative literature review was conducted using a systematic search and comparative thematic synthesis, organized into four categories: value proposition and lodging experience, sustainability, transformation of the competitive environment, and strategic capabilities for hotel adaptation. The results show that glamping is distinguished by its combination of nature, comfort, service, and experience, while hotel adaptation is primarily related to innovation, digitalization, quality, dynamic capabilities, resilience, and business networks. Direct evidence on the effects of glamping on the traditional hotel industry remains limited. It is concluded that its competitive impact should be understood less as an automatic process of substitution and more as a transformation of the value attributes and organizational capabilities required to respond to new visitor expectations.
