Abstract
The formulation of research projects constitutes a fundamental competence in higher education, as it enables
students to develop analytical, critical, and methodological skills for the production of scientific knowledge.
In this context, the aim of this article is to provide a theoretical and methodological guide for the formulation
of research projects, addressed to higher education students. The study is developed based on a documentary
analysis of classical and contemporary authors in research methodology, systematically addressing the main
components of a research project, such as the problem statement, justification, objectives, theoretical
framework, and methodology. Likewise, the positivist and interpretive research paradigms are explained,
including their models, methods, techniques, and data collection instruments, supported by matrices and
applied examples in the field of administration. It was evidenced through the theoretical review that
understanding the epistemological paradigm and coherence among the elements of the project are key factors
for proper methodological formulation. It is concluded that the article constitutes a guiding resource that
contributes to the strengthening of research competencies in university students.
