Abstract
The Baroque was an artistic movement that left a profound impact on Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. It was characterized by its drama, emotion and extravagance, extending its influence to all aspects of European life. In the religious realm, the Baroque was a powerful tool for the Catholic Church in response to the Protestant Reformation, using art to inspire devotion and reaffirm its authority. On a political level, European monarchs used artistic patronage to exalt their power and legitimacy, commissioning monumental works that reflected their greatness. Furthermore, the Baroque influenced architecture, music, literature and culture in general, generating masterpieces still admired today. In short, the Baroque not only transformed the artistic landscape of Europe, but also left a lasting cultural legacy relevant todas. In other words, it was a period of great artistic and cultural intensity in Europe, notable for its emotional expression, religious fervor, connection to the monarchy, and its enduring legacy in the history of Western art.
